Strömberg Park development, Vaasa FI, 2014
Strömberg Park is the largest business park in Finland. The engine of the area is ABB Finland Ltd, a manufacturer of electrical engineering solutions. The buildings of the area originate from the era of Strömberg Ltd and the first city plan of the area was made by Alvar Aalto in 1940’s. Aalto has also designed one of the functionalist buildings of the area with Egil Nicklin. Some of the industrial buildings are extremely large (even 100 x 300 m). The process with the client and numerous stakeholders was interactive, based on three workshops and in-between design development. The resulting plan supports the development of a mixed-use open campus. The plan takes into account historical preservation and the corporate demands. We outlined new office buildings and changes of use for the next stage of the development.
