Andermatt Station Quarter, Andermatt CH, 2011
Andermatt is a popular tourist destination high up in the Swiss Alps. The small historic village develops strongly – the station area plays a key role. The new quarter around the train station aims to become a connector between a new tourist resort and the old centre of Andermatt. We envision a lively mixed-use development – a place for services, living, and various leisure activities, including indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The idea is to bring urban moments to the mountains and give the village a new center. The layout is based on a carefully designed series of urban promenades to provide orientation for the people flow. The architecture and the block typologies relate to the surroundings and give local traditions a new twist.
