Felsenau, Chur CH, 2023
The concept presents itself as a response to the evolving environment of the former industrial area transitioning into a residential quarter. It is characterized by clear volumes that create a new identity, harmoniously integrating into the surroundings and defining a generous green space within the area. This space serves not only as a center for residents but also as a point of orientation in the heterogeneous environment.
Large openings on the ground floor of the buildings establish connections to the surroundings, particularly to the Plessur River and the future promenade along the railway tracks. The apartments are organized in two compact linear buildings, enabling serial and modular construction. This approach offers not only cost efficiency and time savings but also variety in apartment types and sizes. The orientation of the living areas towards the south and the mountain panorama provides optimal lighting and attractive views. Generously sized terraces extend the living space outdoors.
The open space concept includes a large courtyard with play areas, linear vegetation volumes, and pavilions, serving as an identifying feature and providing bicycle parking. The network of pathways ensures good connectivity and promotes the use of the courtyard as a social meeting point.
