This is a master plan for a new EcoQuarter Plaines-du-Loup for the City of Lausanne. The proposed concept is based on the idea of an open place in the city and a connector between the centre, the neighbouring quarters and the green spaces of leisure at the edge of the city. On the scale of the quarter, the plan creates urban street-scapes on the edges and leaves an ecological park – a ‘green lung’ – in the middle of the longitudinal site. A variety of urban block typologies has been developed to differentiate the living areas from the mixed-use and working areas. The ecological aspects of the master plan are supported by a holistic concept of sustainability encompassing the social and lifestyle dimensions of sustainability.
